Maverick Male Icon...David Beckham

Today is where I take a moment to recognize, highlight and pay respect to a Maverick Man that I deem as an icon. His name is David Robert Joseph Beckham. This Maverick Man was born in Leytonstone, London, England and he is definitely the epitome of a stylish man from the United Kingdom. Of course, most know Beckham for his phenomenal and innate ability to play soccer as we call it in the United States. However, football is what it's called in Europe. Well, truthfully I'm not here to debate on what it's called. But, I do want to take a minute to showcase the Maverick Man's flawless sense of style. Personally, I feel that every man that would define himself as one that is maverick could learn a lot from the icon aka footballer and now a designer which can be added to his resume. Gentlemen take a look at a few of the images that I gathered. You can decide for yourself if you think he's a Maverick Male Icon. I Say Yes!

There's nothing like seeing a Maverick Man all dressed in black with a hint of white to balance out the look. Take note of the french cuff shirt. It's always that extra touch that finishes the look. 👌🏾

This is what I define as uber polished and distinguished. Beckham knew just how to enhance his ensemble by adding two simple accessories such as a tie bar and pocket square...Perfection!

Here Beckham shows that he can go from being dressed up in a suit to an edgy street style look. I love that he can be a chameleon. As a Maverick Man never be afraid to switch up your look.

Maverick Male Icon...André Lauren Benjamin

I love to take a trip down memory lane and pay homage as well as respect to men that I define as style icons. These men have set and continue to set the standard for what it means to be a Maverick Male Icon. Now, some may feel that the Maverick Man this article is about is not an icon because of his age or because he has not been around for decades upon decades. However, I beg to differ. I think André L. Benjamin also known as André 3000 is the epitome of a present and future style icon. André is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and actor. Many know him as being a part of the amazing hip hop duo Outkast (along side his counterpart rapper Big Boi).

What some may not know is that Benjamin launched his own clothing line in 2008 titled "Benjamin Bixby". This line was inspired by college football. It's very evident that this man loves and understands what fashion is all about and what it means to be maverick. This is why I applaud his effortless sensibility to dress himself in the most fashionable and sometimes undefined way. Today I nominate and vote André L. Benjamin as this week's Maverick Male Icon. I Say Yes!

André is shown wearing a trilby straw hat, white button-down collar, suspenders and a striped tie. I define this as effortless chic. 👌🏾

Who said a Maverick Man can't wear a straw hat with a formal look? Well, whoever stated that was all wrong. André shows every man that fashion is what you make of it. He truly broke the rules. Love it!!!

The New Tux Luxe

I'm sure we have all heard the phrase, "There's more than one way to skin a cat." Well, I would like to add to that by saying, the same reigns true when wearing a tuxedo. In fact, nowadays we see men stepping out the box as we find there's more than one style of tuxedos. Typically, when we look at the award shows such as the Oscars, Academy, SAG, and Grammys just to name a few, we are use to seeing a gentleman wear the classic black tuxedo with the silk satin lapel along with a bib or pin tuck white button down shirt with a black bow tie or skinny tie. Also, we often see this look worn during most black tie functions and at weddings. However, I'm here to announce that the rules of the game have changed. I had a chance to see exactly how they changed during New York Fashion Week when I attended an incredible presentation at the Hudson Hotel Penthouse by two incredible Japanese designers named Hanayome and Masahiro Soga. Both designers came together and decided it was just about time to present a new way of how a man can wear a tuxedo. Take a look at the varied styles of what I call The New Luxe Tux. This will give every Maverick Man a new perspective and something to think about the next time you have to attend an event that requires you to wear formal attire.

This luxe tux is great for the Maverick Man that's bold and daring enough to take a trip on the wild side. The pattern speaks volumes.

Floral print is not only for women and they certainly are not the only ones that loves flowers. Men love flowers too.

A Maverick Man knows that he doesn't have to be in the safari to wear a leopard print. It is very befitting for the red carpet when worn the right way.

The Finale! All of these get my vote and MAVERICK stamp of approval. #ISayYes

Maverick Male Icon...Yul Brunner

Wednesday is always my favorite day of the week. Im sure anyone reading this post is wondering why. Well, let me inform you that today is where I pay homage and recognition to a Maverick Male Icon. This is something I started doing several months ago because so many Maverick Male Icons have and continue to pave the way for so many of us Maverick Men today. With that in mind, today's man of the hour is Yul Brynner. Brynner was a Russian-born United States-based film and stage actor. He was best known for his portrayal of the King of Siam in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I, for which he won two Tony Awards and an Academy Award for the film version. Some of you may even remember him for his role as Rameses II in the 1956 film The Ten Commandments. Though he has won many accolades, lets take a minute to focus on his uber and incredibly exquisite sense of style that he often portrayed. Brynner nailed it when it came to stepping out in style and even down to the costumes that he wore in films. Here are just a few images to view. And, might I add a few tolls and tips to pick up on to all my Maverick Men.

image.jpg

A man can never go wrong by wearing a double breasted peak lapel plaid suit. In my opinion, it is a must have for every man's closet. Look at the details. The texture, fabrication, and silhouette speaks volumes. This is how you wear a suit in an impeccable way.

image.jpg

I love a nice classic polo. It's always the perfect look and free pass for a simple dressy and sporty casual look.

image.jpg

Gentlemen never be afraid to step out the box and go over the top from time to time. This fur vest with the leather buckles is a high fashion piece that one would never forget once you enter and even after you left the room. Brynner sure rocked this look back in the days of the 50s and 60s. I'm well aware that only my high fashion Maverick Men can appreciate this look.

image.jpg

What can I say about this hat? I absolutely love it! For you dapper Maverick Men that love wearing hats from a paperboy cap to a trilby to a fedora, let's not forget to recognize the Maverick Male Icon that wore it before we even knew what the name of the hat was.

image.jpg

Even when wearing a costume this man still possessed style. He knew just how to own it.

image.jpg

I'm all about guys wearing a scruffy look, if it is executed the right way.  Particularly, in the fall and winter seasons most guys tend to grow out their facial hair. It's a nice way of keeping the face warm. I love this image of Brynner with the rolled up sleeves, half unbuttoned shirt, and scruffy beard with his shaved head. This is certainly what I define as a Maverick Stud! Mr. Yul Brynner I applaud you today for being my muse and the Maverick Male Icon of the week. I Say Yes!

Maverick Male Icons...The Dave Clark Five

It's that time of the week where I highlight one of my favorite male icon's. I'm very excited because it's the first written article of Maverick Male Icon of the year, as well as the first Wednesday of The New Year. This time I decided to do something a little different. I'm sure you are wondering what it is. Well, I figured I would focus and highlight not just one specific icon, but several. Yes, you read it correctly...several! Today lets take a look at The Dave Clark Five. Who is The Dave Clark Five? I'm so glad you asked. The Dave Clark Five (also known as "The DC5") were an English pop rock group. This group was established in 1958. They were the second group of the British Invasion to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. They were well known for their single "Glad All Over". The Dave Clark Five had 17 records in the Top 40 of the US Billboard chart and 12 Top 40 hits in their native United Kingdom. Some would probably compare them to The Beattles. In fact, they were just as popular and maybe even ran neck in neck with The Beattles. Especially, when it came to there endless sense of style. After doing some research and coming across several pics, I think every Maverick Man could learn a thing or two that could enhance your own style. Today I applaud Mike Smith, Lenny Davidson, Denis Payton, Rick Huxley, and Dave Clark....The Dave Clark Five. I Say Yes!

image.jpg

Wearing a vest has always been a classic trend of the past and it remains to be one even now. Maverick Men I hope you have at least one vest in your closet. If not, it's time to make the investment.

image.jpg

Who said that only women can wear a silk scarf around their neck and a ruffled shirt??? Well, I must say that I beg to differ. These gentlemen broke all the rules. That is what made them Maverick Men and Icons.

image.jpg

One can never go wrong by wearing a dark blazer and a roll neck shirt paired with a straight leg pant. It is so classic, effortless, timeless, and such a staple. Remember, keep it simple because it always speaks volumes. This is a look that any Maverick Man can practice when in doubt of what to wear to a social function, event, or to the perfect dinner date. Gentlemen I hope we all learned a little something from the enfamous icons...The Dave Clark Five. I Say Yes!
